The State Government has made it mandatory for its 30 departments and corporations to offer minimum wages to all contract workers.
The State labour Department in a circular issued from the Mantralaya in Naya Raipur communicated to all the departmental heads that it had come to its notice that contract workers deployed in the subordinate establishments and construction work activities are not being paid minimum wages.
Besides the minimum wages the contract workers as per the various labour law provisions are to be offered benefits such as Overtime, Bonus, Gratuity, Maternity benefits, holidays, ESI facility, provident fund, health and security benefits, muster roll facility, wages payment registration, planning registration, attendance card and salary slip.
The Government has directed to make payment to contract workers from banks besides issuance of an identity card by the State Government.
