Alertness of a Sentry on duty foiled a major escape bid of undertrials from District and Sessions court premises here, police said on Tuesday.
The undertrials who were trying to escape included Gopanna who has been arrested on the charges of helping left Wing Extremists.The incident was reported in the noon hours. The jail inmates are regularly brought and kept in the lock-up room in the court premises and are taken to the court room when they are summoned, Superintendent of Police, Jagdalpur, Ajay Yadav informed.
Some undertrials were trying to create a hole in the wall of the lock-up room which had developed a breach. However, the Sentry guarding the lock-up noticed the escape attempt by undertrials and promptly foiled the escape bid, the SP said.“It seems some undertrials who are facing serious charges of murder and loot were involved in the incident. We are investigating the matter,”Yadav said.The tools used in the escape bid were found in the lock-up room and police is investigating the matter that from where did the under trials get them.
