The All India Institute of Medial Sciences (AIIMS) at Tatibandh, Raipur, has been struggling to cope as the number of patients jumped to seven hundred per day and has been increasing day by day, an official said on Thursday.
Patients have to stand in queue for long as it does not have adequate doctors and staffs to attend to them.
Hospital sources said the process for recruitment of doctors and staffs was underway and unless and until they were complete, such temporary problems will continue.
However, patients are thronging to the outpatient department of the hospital as early as 8 am. After registration, they are being forced to stand three-four hours in queue for their turn.
Such a long wait time has been causing inconvenience to those who are accompanying the patients. They are usually seen visiting the registration counter a number of times.
Those employed in government or private sectors are also forced to leave their patients at the hospital because of the delay.
Patients said they are visiting the AIIMS with a hope that they will get better health care but due to the absence of sufficient number of doctors and specialists, they are facing troubles.
The need of specialist doctors are being felt, it is said.
If the Government does not provide specialists and other required doctors soon, the patients who have been reaching here from across the State with high hope would continue to face difficulty, they said.
AIIMS superintendent Dr Ajay Dani said there was a shortage of doctors on Thursday due to protocol meeting. That was the reason why patients had to stand in queue for long.
