The state government will undertake a safety audit of all anicuts in the state to ascertain how they turned dilapidated, agriculture and water resources minister Ravindra Choubey told the assembly on Thursday.
The minister gave the assurance after Congress member Indu Banjare and later BJP member Narayan Chandel and Saurabh Singh raised the issue.
“It is a critical issue that constructed anicuts have become ruins. A team led by chief engineer will be sent to probe them.”
BJP legislator sought stern action against the officials involved in low quality construction. The minister assured him of action.
Assembly Speaker Charandas Mahant suggested that the audit should be conducted in all the anicuts of the state which are either been damaged or are likely to be damaged in coming monsoon.
The minister said the probe will start from Janjgir-Champa district of the state.
