Agri students stage dharna, meet Minister

The students of Agriculture Engineering staged dharna in support of their demand to establish a separate Directorate for Agriculture Engineering, here at Budha Talab on Friday.

The students also took out a procession and later a delegation handed over a memorandum to Agriculture Minister Brijmohan Agrawal.

The students claimed that Minister assured them of taking appropriate steps on their demands.

The students led by Indira Gandhi Agriculture University (IGAU) Students’ Union president Hemkant Chandravanshi said that apart from establishing a separate Directorate, the Government should start appointment of Agriculture Engineers and BSc (Agriculture) graduates as more than 500 of them are unemployed due to Government’s apathy.

They said that the separate Directorate will not

only benefit the Agriculture engineers but also the State which has an agriculture based economy.

The new Agriculture Directorate should be established on the lines of Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh which gives ample opportunity to agriculture engineers, they said.

They demanded that the course should be recognised as a professional course.

The students took out a procession but they were stopped near Government primary school and SDM accepted the memorandum from them.

later a delegation of students including Hemkant Chandravanshi met Brijmohan Agrawal and handed over a memorandum to him.

“Agrawal said that the recognition of course a professional course is under consideration while he will

see to the demand for setting a separate directorate,” said Chandravanshi.
