Health and Urban Administration Minister Amar Agrawal on Monday filed a defamation petition in the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) alleging false allegations made by the Mayor and Secretary of State Congress Committee on him.
The next hearing on the case is scheduled on May 13 this year. It may be recalled that the Congress workers had staged a massive agitation on the issue of alleged irregularities committed in relation to a government and private land issue at Bhadora village of Mastoori Development Block.
During the agitation, Mayor Vanirao and State Congress Committee Secretary Vivek Bajpai had cast allegations on the Health Minister in their respective speeches.
Calling the allegations as a vilification campaign, Agrawal through advocate Ranvir Singh sent a legal notice to the Mayor and the State Congress Committee Secretary with a warning to file a Rs100 crore defamation suit against them.
The notice was sent by a registered post but it was learnt that the same not received by the Mayor and the State Congress Secretary and returned to Agrawal.
Thereafter, the Health Minister filed a defamation case with a plea for prosecution of both Vanirao and Bajpai in the court of CGM Om Prakash Chouhan.
Admitting the petition, the CGM set the next date of hearing on May 13.
Agrawal stated that both the respondents in the petition had cast allegations on him without any basis and the legal notice sent to them had also returned.
This has prompted him to file a case against both the Mayor and the State Congress Committee Secretary.
