After Jaundice, its now Malaria which has started spreading its tentacles across the State as a few cases have been detected in Basna area of Mahasamund district besides some other districts.
Alarmed by this, the Health Department has sought report from the districts and issued instructions for preventive measures to the field staff. The Department had started preparation to deal with the situation before onset of the monsoon. Spraying of ‘Dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane’ (DDT) will be started in all the districts except Raipur, Durg and Bemetara from June 15.
The officers of the Health Department said that probability of Malaria is very low during summer season as the mosquitoes are killed due to high temperature.
However, the detection of cases of Malaria in Mahasamund and other areas has made the officers to take preventive action and find the cause of the disease. A report has been sought from the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Mahasamund in this regard.
The officers are holding meetings and discussions to check the disease at early stage. State Programme Officer (Malaria) Dr V Jaiprakash acknowledged that complaints regarding malaria are coming from some places.
“We have sought reports from the concerned CMOs and appropriate action will be taken accordingly,” said Dr Jaiprakash. Meanwhile, preparations have been started to spray DDT powder in all district except Raipur, Durg and Bemetara.
According to Dr Jaiprakash, DDT powder has been supplied to all the district headquarters. The spraying of DDT powder in these districts will be started from June 15 to check breeding of mosquitoes.
Apart from preventive steps, the Department will also organize health camps and collect blood samples. Treatment will be provided to the patients in the Government hospitals, added Dr Jaiprakash.
