The affidavits submitted by candidates contesting the lok Sabha polls would be displayed in the various district collectorates as well as in public places.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued necessary instructions to all the chief electoral officers in this regard, officials said. It is mandatory for all candidates contesting the Assembly and lok Sabha election to disclose detail of their assets and the criminal cases filed against them while filing their nomination papers.
Currently such affidavits were only available with the concerned returning officer, or on the website of the respective chief electoral officer. After demands from various sectors, the ECI had sought opinions from the chief electoral officers of all the states on the matter. Based on their recommendation, the commission decided that the affidavits should be displayed in public places. The places where such affidavits would be displayed include Collectorate, Zila Parisad office, SDM office, Panchayat Samiti office, Office of the respective municipality and urban local bodies, Tehsil office, and Panchayat office.
The Commission said the affidavits would be displayed five days after the last date for withdrawal of nomination
