Additional Chief Secretary, Finance Department, DS Mishra will review the progress of the status of birth-death registration in the State on July 24, by holding video conferencing with the collectors of all 27 districts.

Director, Census and Secretary Renu Pillai will discuss the status of birth-death status with all the collectors through video conferencing on July 18. According to sources, the progress of birth-death registration in the State was not satisfactory. In order to improve the situation, the State Government and the Union home ministry have been making joint efforts.

Officers in the Statistics Department said that under the process of birth-death registration, on the child birth-death at home, the head of the family or immediate relative or Anganwadi worker or Kotwar should inform the Panchayat Secretary within 21 days of the incident. If the birth-death happens in hospital the In-charge of the institution should inform the incident to district registrar. Similarly, in urban areas, the hospitals concerned have to inform the birth-death incidents at their institutions to the registrar.

Under the Birth-Death Registration Act 1969 and Chhattisgarh Birth-Death Registration Act 2001, birth-death registration is mandatory in the country. Under the Act, it is the responsibility of the Registrar to collect information about birth-death from all hospitals under his jurisdiction every week. In all the 27 districts of Chhattisgarh birth-death registration related training programme has been organised.

Chief executive officers of Nagar Panchayat, Janpad Panchayat, district statistical officer and in-charges of 30-bed government hospitals and private hospitals attend the training programmes.
