Additional Chief Secretary in the Home, Jail, Transport and Water Resources Department NK Aswal on Thursday held a meeting of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Development Department officials and directed them to inspect the girls' hostels in the State from time to time for their better management.

Aswal said that the State government had been issuing circulars to the government and non- government-run organizations from time to time in this regard. During the meeting, Aswal stressed the need for maintaining better hygiene in girls' hostels and ashrams.

He directed the assistant commissioners present at the meeting to instruct all the nodal officers to regularly visit all the girls' hostels and schools and inspect the quality of food served to the inmates. Besides, they should also be asked to check that proper health care, drinking water facilities, and safety arrangements are in place, Aswal said. He directed all the assistant commissioners and nodal officers that they submit the details of their tour reports every month to the higher authorities through proper channels.

He said the local officials would be held responsible for any irregularity noticed in the ashrams and girls' hostels.
