The life of a five-year-old girl with a tumour above the heart was saved on Monday after a successful operation at the Advance Cardiac Institute (ACI) of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Memorial Medical College Hospital, Chhattisgarh's biggest.

Heart, Chest and Vascular surgery             department Head Dr Krishnakant Sahu said it was a rare tumor, generally found in patients aged 20-40 years and near the stomach.

He said the girl from Ambikapur was reporting pain in the chest and cough for the last six months. She was referred to the Medical College, Raipur, from a            private hospital.

The investigation revealed that the tumour was impacting the lungs and heart's main arteries. The tumour was 130 gram, around the size of a heart, Sahu said.

He added that the patient recovered within five days and was discharged.
