In another medical feat, heart specialists at the Advance Cardiac Institute (ACI) of Dr BR Ambedkar Memorial Hospital here stabilized the irregular heartbeats of an      elderly man by correcting the natural electrical circuit of his heart, saving his life.

A team of doctors led by Dr Smita Shrivastava, head of    cardiology department at ACI, treated the 60-year-old through left bundle pacing or condition system technique, a press release said.

Doctors fitted the pace maker wire in the conduction system of the patient’s heart. The procedure was conducted in the ACI’s cathlab.

Dr Shrivastava said the treatment of fault in the natural electrical circuit of heart’s    veins through electro           physiology study was usually carried out in ACI. This is the first time that left bundle      pacing or conduction system pacing was done.

Veins of hearts have natural electrical circuit which can malfunction due to several    reasons. The patient, a resident of Raipur, was admitted in ACI with blockage in the heart and his heart rate was 30 bpm. This condition is called bradycardia.

His ECG revealed that his heart’s natural electric circuit was not functioning properly, affecting the natural current flow in his heart’s veins. Through a minor surgery, the corrections were made, the press release said.

ACI was established on November 1, 2017. Since then, at the cardiology department, 5,234 intervention cardiac     procedures have been done, it said.
