A special police officer (SPO) of Mukurdom in Bhejji thana of Sukma district who was earlier abducted by Maoist insurgents, was killed by his captors. Relatives identified his body on the basis of his clothes.

According to information received from police, a resident of Mukurdom, SPO Chandu Ram (29), son of Pardeshi was abducted by Maoist rebels on March 13 this year. He was allegedly killed by his captors during the night of 14-15 April. His skeleton was spotted in jungle on April 22 after which relatives identified him on the basis of his clothes. After conducting post mortem at Konta sub health centre on Thursday, his body was handed over to his relatives.

Notably, the state government recruited Salwa Judum leaders as special police officers in state police and after giving them proper training many SPOs have been promoted to assistant constable’s post who help security forces in conducting searches in remote areas. But Maoist rebels see these SPOs as their number one enemy and many of them have been killed after abduction.
