Abducted Engineer released by Maoists

An abducted Sub-Engineer in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district was on Wednesday released by Maoists after being held captive for almost a week.

Roshan Lakra (35) and peon Lakshman Partagiri (24) were missing on November 11. Both were employees of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna (PMGSY) and were abducted while on duty.

The peon was released on Friday evening. Lakra's release followed a 'Jan Adalat', a police officer said.

The Engineer will undergo medical examination once he reaches the district headquarters.

Lakra and Partagiri had gone to conduct a survey of a road to be built on a 15-km stretch between Bijapur town and Gorna-Mankeli when they were seized.

According to police, they were abducted from Kanhaiguda village, around 4 km away from Gorna.

"Partagiri was freed at the same place on Friday evening," the official said.

For nearly a week, journalists and social organizations in the Bastar region pursued Maoists to release the Engineer.
