Raksha Bandhan is a festival which is being observed  from time immemorial in our country as a symbolic reminder of  reciprocal love and affection and responsibility of a brother towards his sister for her security.

A brother Shrinivas Sharma has resolved on this occasion to save his sister’s life who has been ailing from a renal problem requiring kidney transplant. R Madhavi is to get a kidney from her brother Shrinivas.

According to Madhvi, she is a diabetic for the past 18 years and recently she became a patient of high blood pressure. This has further aggravated her renal problem.

Though she has been under treatment for years but barely three months back, the doctors have informed her that her both the kidneys are now not functioning normally. She had been on dialysis since then.

According to doctors treating her, the only option left to save her life is by donating kidney to her.

Following this, Madhvi’s brother and sister both were ready to donate kidney to save her life, but only brother Shrinivas Sharma's kidney matched with that of his sister.

Madhvi stated that her two daughters were married and only son is an Aeronautical Engineer by profession, whereas his brother Shrinivas has two daughters aged 9 and 4 years .

Madhvi turned emotional while saying that her brother is going to save her life by donating his kidney. 'What else could be a precious gift for me on the occasion of Rakshabandhan', she said.

Shrinivas, who is an employee in a Pharmaceutical company stated: 'It would be my pleasure that I would be able to save my sister’s life by donating one of  my kidneys. I don’t have any doubt in my mind regarding donating kidney , since I am in medical profession and I know very well that one can survive with one healthy kidney.

He stated that his wife has also supported his decision.
