Preparations for the appointment of 950 assistant professors are on and a proposal in this regard has been sent to PSC. In this relation, a meeting of the departmental promotion committee was heldhere for the promotion of more than 100 professors to the post of principals.
It has been said that the posting of the promoted principal could be made after the lok Sabha election. The promotion of professors was pending for a long time. large number colleges in the State are running depending on the in-charge principals. This situation would be solved after the new postings of principals.
It has been said that the Higher Education department had prepared a proposal for the appointment of 966 assistant professors on the vacant posts. The issue of lack of assistant professors in the State colleges had been raised in Assembly also. Specially, college in Bijapur district is running depending on a single assistant professor.
According to department sources, for the appointment of assistant professors, new rules have been prepared, as per the norms of UGC.The sources said that for the appointment of assistant professors, along with minimum qualification of graduate and 55 per cent marks in post-graduate, it is necessary to pass NET and SlATE.
Those who are Ph D or M Phil need not pass NET or SlATE. Besides, the candidates who have graduation and post graduation in the related subject only would have the eligibility. The successful candidate will have one-year probationary period. If the department would not conduct interview, then the probationary period would be extended to two years.
According to sources, if there is delay in the PSC examination, the department can conduct the examination on its own.However, the department has mounted pressure on the PSC to conduct the selection examination soon.
