Notices will be served to the hospitals and nursing homes which have failed to comply with the norms under the Nursing Homes Act.About 75 hospitals and Nursing homes of the city have failed to comply with the norms and the Health Department is likely to initiate action against them.
“The notices are being prepared against 75 Nursing homes and hospitals of the city for not meeting the norms set under the Nursing Homes Act. The notices will be served to these hospitals within a couple of days,” said CMHO Dr KR Sonwani.
The Health Department had already conducted inspection of 245 Nursing homes and hospitals of the city. The investigation has detected that many Nursing homes and hospitals were having untrained staff, dearth of doctors, inadequate space for patients as well as their attendants, no fire-safety systems, no permission taken from environment department etc.
Initially the hospitals and Nursing homes were asked to overcome these shortcomings. However, even after a few months, the defaulters made no improvement.
The Health Department took strong notice of the defaulters and has decided to issue notice to them.
Dr Sonwani said that Raipur city has large number of Nursing homes while some are in Tilda, Abhanpur and Navapara-Rajim. Inspection in 245 hospitals and Nursing homes has been completed. Out of these 75 are being issued notice.
“Action will be taken against the hospitals and Nursing homes if they fail to overcome the shortcomings as pointed out in the notice,” said Dr Sonwani.
It is worth mentioning that the government has given time to the hospitals for training of staff. But the other norms and standards set under Nursing Homes Act will have to be met within the time period given in the notice. Meanwhile, Bilaspur District Collector Siddharth Komal Singh Pardeshi has directed the CMHO to issue notice to 43 Nursing homes and hospitals of the city for failing to meet the norms under the Nursing Homes Act.
These Nursing homes and hospitals have been asked to complete the formalities and to fulfill the requirements of the Nursing Homes Act within 15 days otherwise action will be taken against them.
The Collector had recently initiated investigation against the Nursing homes and hospitals which revealed that many hospitals and nursing homes had untrained staff.
