The Rabi crop area of Raipur revenue division is likely to be increased by 59,000 hectares during the current Rabi season, which is 7 per cent more than that of the last year.
According to an official press statement issued here on Wednesday, last year Rabi crops were cultivated in 8,60,440 hectares in the division, which is likely to be increased to 9,19,360 hectares. Most of the increase in the Rabi area is expected in Gariaband district, which is 21 per cent.
last year, 47,270 hectare Rabi crops were sown in Gariaband district, but this year an estimated 59,750 hectare is to be sown, the release added.
According to the release, because of the increased irrigation facilities and the preferment the government has been giving to pulses and oilseed crops, in place of summer season paddy crop, Rabi crop area has been increasing continuously in this division.
In the current Rabi season an 18 per cent increase in the crop area in Raipur district, 13 per cent in Balaudabazar district, 12 per cent in Kabirdham district, 5 per cent in Mahasamund district, 4 per cent each in Rajnandgaon and Dhamtari districts and 2 per cent in Bemethara district is expected. A good increase in the areas of maize and gram crops has been registered in the division, the release added.
It is expected that 78,290 hectare Rabi crops will be sown in Raipur district this year. Similarly, in Balaudabazar district 82,990 hectares, Kabirdham 1,19,110 hectares, Mahasamund 52,390 hectares, Rajnandgaon 1,58,000 hectares, Dhamtari 1,00,440 hectares, Bemethara 1,35,790 hectares, Durg 49,390 hectares and in Balod district 82,690 hectare area of Rabi crop sowing is expected.
last year, in Balaudabazar district 73,120 hectares, Kabirdham 1,06,580 hectares, Mahasamund 50,100 hectares, Rajnandgaon 1,52,610 hectares, Dhamtari 96,290 hectares, Bemethara 1,33,340 hectares, Durg 49,790 hectares and in Balod district 82,830 hectare area of Rabi crop were sown.
