7 crops included in National Agriculture Insurance Scheme

Seven crops have been covered under the National Agriculture Insurance Scheme during the current Kharif season 2015 in Chhattisgarh, officials informed. The crops include paddy, Makka, Soyabean, Groundnut, Arhar pulses, Udad and Moong.In a Cabinet meeting held in May, Chief Minister Raman Singh and his Council of Ministers had decided to implement the National Agriculture Insurance Policy, officials stated.

The Agriculture Department after consultations with the Union Agriculture Ministry has decided to implement the insurance policy.The Agriculture Department officials said that farmers who have taken loans, farmers who have not taken loans and share-croppers are entitled for the insurance scheme.
