A team of six employees in PEM Dept of Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP), including one officer and five non-executives were engaged in carrying out a planned maintenance job in Booster Fan in Convertor Shop of Steel Melting Shop–II on Friday, a BSP press release informed.

The job was being carried out since May 30, 2016 and another team from Mechanical Section of Convertor Shop including two officers and seven non-executives were also working in the same area.

As is the standard practice in BSP, particularly for any such job being carried out in areas where there is possibility of presence of gas, the team of men engaged for the job were having portable gas monitors.

Upon detection of higher concentration of gas in the vicinity of the maintenance job area, members of the team came away from the spot and were subsequently taken to the Plant’s Main Medical Post (MMP).

One employee was discharged from MMP itself while the remaining persons were taken to the Plant’s JlN Hospital & Research Centre, wherein they have been kept under medical observation. Condition of all five persons in the hospital is stable and they are out of danger.
