The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel have foiled a major incident by seizing an IED (Improvised Explosive Device) weighing around 40 kgs planted by insurgents on a road in restive Narayanpur district of Bastar on Monday.

“It could be the heaviest IED found by security personnel among those unearthed during the past few months. The move by rebels could be part of 11th Foundation Day of Communist Party of India (Maoist) which is being observed in the region,” officials stated.

Amid growing dominance of security personnel in insurgency hit districts of Chhattisgarh, rebels on Monday also dropped pamphlets, put up banners and posters, cut-off road connectivity and planted powerful IED in Narayanpur district, senior police officials stated.

Notably, the Maoist Communist Centre (MCC) and People’s War Group (PWG) merged to form CPI (Maoist) on September 21 in 2004, and since then rebels have been observing Foundation Week every year from September 21 to 27. It may be recalled that last year, the banned organisation has observed decade Foundation Day of CPI (Maoists).

In another case, ultras on Monday put up posters and banners on Kirandul-Palnar road and other busy stretches in Dantewada district. Moreover, to create terror among local population during Foundation Day of CPI (Maoist), outlaws have installed banner or poster in KK line under East Cost Railway following which Railway administration has also stepped up its security arrangements.

“Anticipating disturbance which could to be created by ultras, security in  insurgency hit region of the State have been beefed up,” said a senior police officer, adding that specific directives to remain extra vigilant have been given to police and paramilitary personnel while undertaking anti-Naxal operations.

The officials further maintained that acting on inputs that insurgents are planning to create disturbance in the region to mark Foundation Day of CPI (Maoist), security personnel have been directed to strictly follow Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)  and also keep close a watch on suspicious movement of people to avert untoward incident during anti-Naxal exercises.

Moreover, police and paramilitary forces deployed in the State have been asked to intensify operations to thwart any evil plans of the rebels.

According to police sources, no major incident was reported in the State on first day of the Foundation Week also being observed by rebels between September 21 and September 27.
