The district is gradually emerging as an unsafe place for children after four minor boys went missing within a week. The parents of those missing boys are left with not much option to trace back their wards other than any godly intervention after the police restricted its role in merely registering the missing persons complaints.

These are not isolated incidents but similar such incidents have taken place at regular intervals but seldom police take them seriously as most of the missing children hail from economically poor background, said the local residents.

According to them, a nine-year-old boy of a ‘chat’ vendor went missing from Civil lines area six months back and there was no whereabouts of him yet. In a similar incident, a nine-year-old student went missing  from Sarkada locality a year back and no trace of him yet, they said.

They also felt the police was not doing its job properly as there was no trace of the missing children. The 15-year-old boy a resident under Tharwa police station went missing on May 4, said his father Ramesh.

According to him, his son Vikas left home in the morning and never returned. The family tried its best to trace him and when failed approached the police for help. Similarly, in yet another incident, nine-year-old Shivam and his friend 11-year-old Rahul went missing from Sarkada locality.

The duo had gone to collect Prasada (blessed offerings) from adjacent Sai Baba temple along with one of their common friends San Yadav.   According to reports, a boy went missing from Sirgitto police station on last Thursday as well. The police are clueless about their whereabouts.
