Four Naxals including a woman insurgent have surrendered before the police in the restive Kondagon district of Bastar division. Permanent warrants were issued against all four insurgents, a senior police officer said on Wednesday.
The insurgents were involved in various serious criminal incidents including attack on police, polling parties and demolishing school buildings, Superintendent of Police, Kondagaon, Abhishek Meena informed.
The surrendered insurgents were identified as Dhansingh Nag (25) resident of Kolega, Juggo Salam (25) of Kulanar, Ramu Gond (53) and Budhram (40) both hailing from Badgai.
They arrested insurgents were associated with Maoists for the past seven years in Barda Dalam and were active in Dhanora, Iragaon, Amabeda and Benur region of the district, the SP said.
Initially lured by Maoists in the name of being paid for firing guns, they had joined the Maoist cadre. However, after working with the rebels for seven years, they expressed desire to leave the Maoist group before the higher cadres after which they were issued life threats, the SP said.
During 2009 lok Sabha elections, the insurgents were part of the group which had attacked a polling party in Badgai area and had looted away EVMs. They had also demolished school buildings in Iragaon, Almer and Badgai, Meena said
The surrendered ultras were also disappointed by shoddy treatment meted out to them by senior Maoist leaders. According to the surrendered Naxals, female cadre had to face objectionable behaviour in Maoist camps, the SP remarked.
