Four Maoists, three of them women, surrendered to police in Malkangiri district on Friday.
Police said that they were all members of the CPI(Maoist) of Padia and involved in many incidents of violence including the Sodi murder and the Dandiki attack. The Maoists were identified as Sunita Wonchemi, Kushi Kuthami, Iti Kunjami and Ganga Karatapi. They said they decided to surrender due to exasperation with the Maoist ways, exploitation and torture of tribals in Maoist camps and relentless attack by the police. “They will be provided all possible assistance as per the policy of the Government to help them come back to the mainstream of society,” said Malkangiri SP Mitrabhanu Mohapatra.
