Stage is all set for the urban bodies’ elections in the state and a total of 35.3 lakh voters could exercise their franchise in the elections expected to be held in the month of January next year. About 1.25 lakh will be the first time voters.
Notably, under urban bodies’ across the state, elections are to be held in 9 Municipal Corporations, 38 Municipal Councils and 103 Nagar Panchayats.
According to State Election Commissioner Thakur Ram Singh, after the final publication of the voter’s list there are 35 lakh 29 thousand 565 voters all over the state.
The state election commission had after initial publication of voters’ list invited claims and objections from the voters. After sorting out objections and claims, 1,25,606 new names have been included in the list. Corrections in names and addresses were carried out for 8,146 voters.
In the revision of voter’s list for the elections omission of 32,171 names was also done, the official informed.
