Shunning the path of violence, 32 lower-rung Maoist cadres, including 18 against whom permanent arrest warrant were issued, surrendered before police here on Monday.

According to police, the    surrendered ultras include three women Naxals.

They gave up arms before superintendent of police (SP) Sukma DS Maravi while pledging to shun the path of violence.

“Madvi Hinga who was militia in-charge and member of the Naxal RPC (Revolutionary People’s Committee) handed over a muzzle- loading gun to the SP,” police said.

They were wanted in connection with incidents like loot, arson, brawl, violation of Arms Act and similar offenses, police said.

The surrender was seen as a moral victory of police in Bastar which has been under pressure due to continuous Naxal attacks in past few weeks ahead of elections.

Bastar will go for voting on April 11.
