Three Naxalites involved in planting explosives to harm security forces were arrested from Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district, police said on Thursday.

In a separate incident, two Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) were recovered from an area of Naxalite influence in Rajnandgaon district on Thursday, a police press release said.

Kunjam Kosa (32), Nuppo Bhima (38) and Madkam Budhra (38) were caught near Mallebagu village in the Chintalnar police station limits when the District Reserve Guard and local police were on an area domination operation on Wednesday, Inspector General of Police (Bastar) Sundarraj P said.

Kosa was a militia platoon deputy commander of the Maoists and the other two lower rung members, he said.

“The three were instrumental in planting explosives and iron spikes to target security forces and damaging roads in Chintalnar and Jagargunda areas in the last four years," he said.

In Rajnandgaon, the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and district force recovered two IEDs - one weighed 15 kg and another of 5 kg - from separate routes in the Bakarkatta police station area on Thursday morning, a release from Rajnandgaon police said.

The explosives were destroyed by the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS), it said.
