As many as 241 bonded labourers were rescued from the States of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka during a span of two years by a rescue team formed in the district.
The team was formed to curb inter-State illegal migration of labourers under the guidance of Collector Tamansingh Sonwani, officials stated. The rescued bonded labourers belonged to Narayanpur besides Kondagaon, Dantewada, Kanker, Korba and Bastar districts.
The bonded labourers hailing from bordering district Odisha were also rescued. Out of 241 rescued bonded labourers 153 were of Narayanpur, 6 from Kanker, 33 of Kondagaon, 5 from Dantewada, 29 of Bastar, 8 from Korba and 7 from Odisha.
