24 Maoists surrender

As many as 24 Naxalites including 10 women have surrendered before security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district, police said on Monday.

The Maoists, all lower rung cadres who were active in the Kistaram area, turned themselves in at a police camp in Potakpalli village on the Holi Milan programme on Sunday, Sukma Superintendent of Police Sunil Sharma said.

All the surrendered Naxalites were militia members of the outlawed Maoist movement, he said.

Around 120 villagers accompanied the Naxalites when they arrived at the police camp, he said.

The surrendered cadres said they were disappointed with the Maoist ideology and impressed by the police rehabilitation drive for the rebels, the officer said.
