Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Friday transferred Rs 1,500 crores as input subsidy into the bank accounts of 22 lakh farmers in Chhattisgarh ahead of the Kharif season on occasion of 30th death anniversary of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi.

The amount was released as the first installment of the Rajiv Gandhi Kisan Nyaya Yojana 2021. Under the scheme, Rs 5,597 crores will be given to the farmers in four installments as input subsidy.

At the event, Baghel, Speaker Dr. Charan Das Mahant and all Cabinet ministers paid floral tributes to Rajiv Gandhi, who was assassinated on this day in 1991 at an election rally near Chennai by a female Tamil Tiger suicide bomber from Sri Lanka.

The programme started with the state song. Baghel administered the oath of anti-terrorism to the people.

He also transferred Rs 7.17 crores to 72,000 villagers and cattle rearers as payment for the dung procured in Gauthans between March 15 and May 15 under the Godhan Nyaya Yojana.

The Chief Minister launched the super compost fertilizer manufactured in gauthans for sale to the farmers.

He also inaugurated the beautification work of the statue site at Rajiv Gandhi Chowk in Raipur.

For the transfer of funds under Rajiv Gandhi Kisan Nyaya Yojana and Godhan Nyaya Yojana, Congress leader Sonia Gandhi sent a message praising the Chhattisgarh government’s efforts to boost economic growth as commendable.

She said that Rajiv Gandhi had always envisioned the empowerment of farmers, labourers, poor and backward people.

The Chhattisgarh government has paid a true tribute to Rajiv Gandhi on his martyrdom day.

Baghel said the input subsidy provided to the farmers has significantly improved the agriculture and farming status in the state.

The Chief Minister also spoke about the steps taken by his government to battle Covid-19.
