Youth held for raping minor girl in B’swar
Baleswar: The Khantapara police on Monday arrested a 25-year-old man, Sanjay Satra, for allegedly raping a minor girl of Kalamatia village under Inchudi gram panchayat on Sunday evening. Sources said while the girl, a Class-IX student, was coming to a relative’s house by a bicycle, two youths raped her after overpowering her. Following an FIR lodged by the girl, the police started investigation after registering a case of gangrape. The other accused, Pradip Mahal, is still at large.
B’pur Bikas Parishad celebrates annual day
BRAHMAPUR: The Brahmapur Bikash Parishad celebrated its first annual function at the Ganjam Kala Parishad here on Sunday. Bikash Parishad president Kailash Chandra Mishra presided over the ceremony. 1 dies, 2 hurt in road mishaps in K’pada
Kendrapada: A person died and two others were injured in two separate road incidents in Kendrapada district on Sunday. While 45-year-old Bijay Kumar Sethy of Ghanashyampur was run over by a truck on the Haladia-Fakirabad road, two persons sustained injuries when their bikes had a collision on the Paradip-Daitary Expressway near Balabhadrapur. The injured Sarat Sahu and Kailash Sahu of Satabatia village were rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital. later, one of them was shifted to the SCB Medical College Hospital, Cuttack.
NTPC Kaniha bags State Safety Awards
Talcher: The NTPC, Talcher Kaniha bagged State Safety Awards for 2013 as Runner in the category of longest Accident Free Period under more than 25 lakhs man-hours. The award was presented by Steel and Mines Minister Prafulla Kumar Mallick. It was also awarded with the Safety Awards-2012 as Winner for longest Accident Free Period under more than 25 lakhs man-hours category. It also received the award for the year 2011 for Best Performance in Accident Prevention, Safety Management and Communication System.
