A Maoist couple surrendered before the police here on Friday. Superintendent of Police Kl Dhruv informed that the couple was impressed with the surrender policy adopted by the Chhattisgarh government.
According to the police, Salim alias Paret Ramlakshman (27) and his wife Paret Sarita alias Kaka Sarita alias Jaya Paret (23) both residents of Minkapalli village under Madded police station have decided to leave the Maoists and live their lives as other common people of the State.Salim was Area Committee Member of Naxal lOS (local Operating Squad) active in Bhopalpattnam area. He had joined the Maoist cadre in 2002 and had served as Area Committee Member in Madded, Modakpal, Avapalli, Bhadrakali, Taralgudi areas. He used to keep a 12 bore gun.
Similarly Paret Sarita was forcefully inducted in Naxal outfit by Maoist leaders in 2001, police claimed. She was Range Committee and lOS member active in Bhopalpattnam. The female Naxal also used to carry 12 bore gun, police maintained. They were deeply disturbed by shabby treatment meted out to the local cadres from Chhattisgarh by Maoist leaders of Andhra Pradesh origin. Atrocities on tribals, killing in name of police informer and having respect for only incarcerated Naxal leaders forced them to shun the path of violence, police said.
Initially, assistance of Rs10,000 each has been given to the surrendered couple and they will be rehabilitated as per the policy of the State Government, the SP said.
