Cong adamant on stalling Monsoon session

On the issue of Maoist attack on Congress convoy at Jeeram valley in Bastar, opposition Congress is adamant on its stand not to allow Monsoon Session proceedings of the state Assembly. However, the final decision will be taken in the meeting of party legislators.

Notably, the concluding Monsoon session of the third Assembly of Chhattisgarh is scheduled from July 15. But, the opposition Congress, stung by the martyrdom of its senior leaders in May 25 Maoist attack, is not in a mood to let the Assembly run. leader of opposition in Assembly Ravindra Choubey claimed that Congress members have even offered to quit the membership of the House and in this situation the opposition members can go up to any extent. They can even boycott the proceedings of the House. However, any such decision will be taken only in the meeting of ClP held on the eve of Assembly session.

Though efforts are on to ensure that the last session of the House function smoothly as Assembly Speaker Dharamlal Kaushik, Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh and leader of Opposition have already held a meeting in this connection on June 24 seeking the opposition help to run the house but Choubey remained non committal on the issue.

Talking to media men Choubey lamented that unless the criminals involved in the massacre are brought to book and action is taken against the people responsible for lapses in security, there was no point in allowing the Assembly to run. The state government has itself accepted lapse in security. On Maoist insurgency issue closed door meetings have been held and Nandkumar Patel and Mahendra Karma who were most vocal in those meetings were killed. Now, holding meetings on the same issue has no relevance. The state

government will have to clear its stand on these issues, Choubey asked.

On the first day, the House will be adjourned after paying tributes to Congress leaders killed in Darbha massacre and next day morning through adjournment motion Congress members will raise the

issue in big way and also question the delay in taking action against those responsible for lapse in security.
