20 poor women show the way to financial self-reliance

Twenty women from poor families with some even working as manual labourers in Bilaspur have achieved the required skills to run their own beauty parlours one day.

Shyama Sahu, Heena Rajput, Karuna Thakur, lalita Suryavanshi and Neeta Prajapati —all from labour dominated settlement Mannadol Tifra in Bilaspur have received free Beautician training under ‘Chief Minister Skill Development Programme’ by the labour Department. The women acquired the 150-day skills training at the local Vinita Beauty Parlour while receiving scholarship of Rs 3,000 each from the State Government. These trained beauticians are now looking to start their own beauty parlours.

Earlier, Shyama Sahu worked as a labourer while also taking up sewing work to make a living while not happy with earning. Sensing the requirement  for more money to pay for the education of her two children, she took up the training to become a beautician while continuing her job of taking up sewing work. Shyama hopes to open a beauty parlour after earning enough to start a business. Her husband has a private job.

Heena Rajput took up tuitions and also some sewing work while her husband has a cycle repairing business with an earning of Rs 3,000 per month. Heena had never imagined that she would be able to acquire free Beautician training one day. Karuna Thakur has passed Eight Standard and works as a labourer in a Brick Kiln not earning enough even after a day’s hard labour.

Karuna is now planning to start a Beauty parlour  with a partnership and had decided to go solo when she had earned enough to start her own beauty parlour. The labour Department officials informed that these women were told about the free Beautician training being offered under ‘Chief Minister Skill Development Programme’ and they readily registered for the  training programme. All the women who had acquired training would be offered a certificate by the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in Bilaspur so that they can work as beauticians, they stated.
