'2 yrs gap desired if Govt officers quit job to enter politics'

Published on:

Judicial and Administrative officials should not be allowed to join active politics immediately after quitting the job as they have a direct influence over public. This makes it necessary that there must be a gap of at least two years before they join politics,” said leader of Opposition in the Chhattisgarh Assembly TS Singhdeo.

He was talking to mediapersons here on Tuesday.

Singhdeo said the former IAS officer OP Chaudhary joining BJP immediately after resigning from service shows that while in service “he was biased towards a certain ideology.”

“A place where you were expected to be unbiased in work, you were working with an ideology”, he said.

Singhdeo though accepted that as per constitutional provisions, an IAS officer is free to join politics after quitting the service but said it was very possible that decisions of such an officer were not unbiased during his service tenure.

Terming the case of Chaudhary as an individual case, he further demanded that provisions should be made that the officials of judicial and administrative services are allowed to join politics only after a gap of two years.
