A two-day training workshop for nodal officers on legislative procedures and practices began at Mahanadi Bhawan, Mantralaya, in Naya Raipur on Monday with Chief Secretary Vivek Dhand chairing the event.

Speaking at the inaugural session, the Chief Secretary said the nodal officers play an important role in sending information on time on Assembly questions, calling attentions and adjournment motions.

“The information which they send to the Assembly should be in a simple language and highly accurate. In our country, the Assembly and the lok Sabha are pillars of the democracy”, he remarked.

He said that the legislators ask different questions on work related to public welfare. The executives always fear the Assembly and as a result a monopoly situation does not arise. Since the legislators stay connected with their area and with the people, they could keep an eye on the quality of work the Government undertakes in their region. As a result, the Government funds on different development and construction works are utilised properly, he said.

The Chief Secretary asked the nodal officers of different departments the problems they have been facing while performing their duty and directed the higher officials to address them.

While speaking on the occasion, Principal Secretary of the Parliamentary affairs department Amitabh Jain told the participants to clear their doubts without fear. He also asked them to take extra care while doing work related to Assembly on time.

Speaking at the inaugural session, former secretary of the Madhya Pradesh Assembly and parliamentary adviser to Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh, Ashok Chaturvedi said the foundation of parliamentary system was laid down in the ancient time.
