14 girl students of Jamruvan High School have fallen ill after consuming iron tablets and admitted in the district hospital for treatment. This was the second such incident during the last two months.
According to sources, iron tables were distributed to girls in the schools on every Tuesday. It is said that in absence of health employees, teachers had distributed the iron tables to the students. The students, who were suffering from stomach ache and vomitting, were admitted in the district hospital with the help of Sanjeevni 108.
After treatment, all of them were reportedly normal. Parents of the students said that the girls fell ill as the Health Department gave them iron tablets without examining. They were angry that such incidents have happened because the Health Department, without any examination of test by the doctors, was giving away folic acid tablets to the girls, though there is Government guidelines that the children should be examined by doctors before giving iron tablets. In this regard, BMO, posted at district hospital, said medicine has been given to teachers for distribution, as health employees were deployed at other places. SR
