About 13.66 lakh farmers have joined the ‘Pradhan Mantri Fasal Beema Yojana’ (PMFBY) in Chhattisgarh, officials informed.
The Insurance covers the current Kharif season. A total of 1.62 lakh more farmers (loanee and Non-loanee) have been insured under the Crop Insurance Scheme in the current year than last year.
Agriculture Minister Brijmohan Agrawal said that monsoon-based National Agriculture Insurance Scheme had been launched last year. The Central Government revamped and launched the Prime Minister Crop Insurance Scheme this year.
The farmers who take loans automatically get insured under the scheme. The farmers who do not avail loan facility have to file a separate form. The last date for seeking crop insurance had been extended from July 31 to August 10, 2016.
