Unable to bear the rat menace anymore, Dr BR Ambedkar Memorial Hospital gave a rat-killing contract to an Indore-based company. On the first day of its drive, the firm killed around 1,000 rats in the hospital premises.

We cleaned wards, store rooms, operation theatres, offices and even the mortuary. We killed around 1,000 rats on Wednesday and we will burn them on Thursday,” said Managing Director of the company, Sanjay Karmakar.

Apart from being a health hazard, the rats were also damaging important documents and hospital equipment. Despite several attempts, the hospital administration had failed to cleanse the hospital of rats.

The firm had identified several spots, placed poisoned eatables near the burrows and sealed them. On Wednesday, the team of the company opened the burrows and found a total of around 1,000 dead rats.

When contacted, Public Relations Officer of the hospital Shubhra Thakur said the company will continue their drive for one month and then keep the hospital rat-free for following eleven months. This will save the hospital from a huge loss.
