A total of 32 percent of children have become free of malnutrition in Chhattisgarh. The number of such children was 140,556 as of May 2021.

Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel had launched a state-wide campaign ‘Mukhyamantri Suposhan Abhiyan’ on October 2, 2019 to mark the 150th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

In January 2019, 4.33 lakh children in the state were identified as malnourished, an official communication said on Tuesday.

According to the National Family Survey-4, 37.7 percent of children below 5 years of age in the state suffered from malnutrition and 47 percent of women in the 15-49 years suffered from anemia.

Most malnourished children were from tribal and remote forest areas.

The government made arrangements to provide hot cooked food under Suposhan Abhiyan by ensuring better utilization of District Mineral Trust fund. Considering the success, it was further expanded across the state.

Nutritious and delicious food made from eggs, laddoos, gram, jaggery, sprouted grains, milk, fruits, groundnut and jaggery chikki, soya brisket, porridge, soya chikki and munga bhaji along with hot cooked food were provided to the beneficiaries.
