‘Take special care of elderly, children’

With a drop in temperature in November, specialists in Chhattisgarh have urged people to take precaution to avoid asthma, high blood pressure and infectious diseases such as pneumonia.

Raipur district Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr. Meera Baghel said: “The most affected by the change of season are newborn babies and the elderly.

"In such a situation, there is infection in the lungs due to bacteria, virus or fungus. Pneumonia usually occurs after a fever or cold.

“Children younger than five years and people above 60 years of age have low immunity and therefore the effects of pneumonia can be quick and severe. The life-threatening pneumonia caused by bacteria in children can be prevented by vaccination.

"Wearing a mask at this time has a double benefit. One will avoid corona and other dust-related diseases like allergies and asthma also,” she said.

Dr. Baghel said: “Eat fresh hot nutritious food in winter. In case of slight cold, cough or loss of taste, dry cough, fever, vomiting, tiredness or weakness, go for tests. Even Covid-19 test can be taken.”
