The symptoms of swine flu are similar to that of Covid-19. Cough and cold, mucus, sore throat and breathlessness due to infection in the lungs are the symptoms, Dr Subhash Mishra, Director (Epidemic), said on Wednesday.
He said people experiencing the symptoms should immediately get tested for Covid-19 along with swine flu.
The swine flu is caused by H1N1 Influenza ‘A’ virus. It spreads through airborne particles and on touching infected objects. The transition period is seven days.
During the rainy season, the elderly, pregnant women and children are more prone to infection.
Those suffering from heart and respiratory disease, liver disease, kidney disease, diabetes, HIV and cancer or patients taking steroid medicine for a long time are at higher risk, he pointed out.
Mishra said the infected person will show high fever with cough, running nose, sore throat, headache, body pain, tiredness, vomiting, diarrhea, chest pain, fall in blood pressure, mucus with blood and nails turning blue as symptoms of swine flu.
To remain safe, avoid crowded places, stay away from infected people and wash hands regularly. If symptoms of swine flu are found, the victim must see a doctor within 24 to 48 hours, he said.
Swine flu test facility is available in all medical colleges. The treatment is being provided in all government hospitals.
