nThe mystery over double murder in capital was resolved within 72 hours, as capital police on Thursday succeeded in arresting all the three accused, which includes a juvenile.
The main accused is the separated husband of one of the victims. He had first killed his estranged wife and when her sister came to her rescue she was also killed, police said.
Addressing the media, Raipur Senior Superintendent of Police Arif Shiekh said the accused had taken “revenge” for his former wife’s alleged infidelity.
Manju had separated a few months ago from Saif Khan, who hails from Satna in Madhya Pradesh. Both were in live-in-relationship and on May 21, 2019 they had entered into wedlock through court marriage, the official informed.
The family members of Manju came to know about it and then pressurised her to leave Saif and come back home. They then sent her for nursing course along with younger sister, Manisha, to Raipur.
The interaction with Saif thereafter was more or less ended. But he continued to trouble her and he posted some materials on Facebook after which Manju had registered complaint with Chakradhar Nagar police station on November 3. Saif was called to police station and was warned for his act after which both parties entered into a compromise.
Since then Saif was angry with Manju. A couple of days back Manju shared a video with another boy through social media platform Tik-Tok. Saif had seen it and out of jealousy had planned to kill her.
Accompanied with another accused Gulam Mustafa and a juvenile, he reached Raipur. On the day of incident, he called Manju and the later agreed to meet him.
While meeting Manju at her rented house in Godawari Nagar there was verbal fight between them and Saif then started beating her with a frying pan.
Manisha, the elder sister intervened and tried to save her sister. But she too was seriously injured. The juvenile was keeping eye outside.
After the incident, trio left for Tatibandh, hiring an auto-rickshaw and left for Annuppur via Bilaspur. The juvenile then returned to his residence at Janjgir-Champa while Gulam is a resident of Raigarh.
Police official further informed that the CCTV footage was instrumental in identifying the accused and a team led by Additional SP (Crime), Pankaj Chandra finally succeeded in nabbing the accused after several attempts as accused were shifting their hiding places. Saif was arrested from Satna in MP, while Gulam from Pendra and the juvenile accused from Raigarh. SSP has announced Rs 40,000 as prize for the police team for cracking the case, official informed.
