‘Rural economy gets fillip with Godhan scheme’

Published on:

The Godhan scheme is delivering fruits two years after its launch and has boosted the rural economy not only by benefitting cattle owners but by also                promoting organic farming in Chhattisgarh.

A communiqué from the government on Tuesday said that under the scheme, 75.38 lakh quintal of cow dung has been procured from cattle owners for Rs 2 per kg and an amount of Rs 150.75 crore has been e-transferred to their bank accounts.

The cow dung was           converted as organic manure and sold to farmers under a no loss-no profit scheme.

The rural economy has thus got a new impetus in Chhattisgarh with the Gauthan and Godhan Nyay schemes.

Farmers are returning to organic farming, leading to a reduction in the cost of organic farming and an increase in production by two times.

The Godhan Nyay Yojana has proved to be a boon for livestock owners and women Self-Help Groups (SHGs).

The Chhattisgarh         government currently operates around 8,000 Gauthans.
