‘Roka-Chheka’ to be continued in C’garh this crop season too

Published on:

During the cropping  period in the current Kharif season, ‘Roka-Chheka’ will be revived across villages in Chhattisgarh to save the crops from being grazed by cattle before sowing the upcoming crop. This will commence from June 20.

The panchayats will be encouraged to make proper arrangements for the cattle in the Gauthans.

‘Roka-Chheka’ is a       traditional event of Chhattisgarh in rural areas where the cattle owners and farmers keep their cattle tied in their homes. It helps to protect the crops sown     during the monsoon period, an official communication said.

Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel had initiated efforts to revive ‘Roka-Chheka’ in villages in the state last year.

In a letter containing the guidelines to all district officials, Agriculture Production Commissioner Dr. Kamalpreet Singh asked them to ensure that the cattle are taken care of.

The veterinary and health camps for cattle should be organized in Gauthans.

No water logging should take place in Gauthans. The cow dung procured should be kept in a safe place        protecting it from rains and floods.
