Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Tuesday said a 'Roka Chheka' drive will start in the state on July 1 to protect the kharif crops and control the hemorrhagic septicaemia and other diseases during monsoon.

Baghel was addressing the beneficiaries of Godhan Nyay Yojana after transferring Rs 7.80 crores to Gauthan Committees and women self-help groups. Godhan scheme benefits are being derived by the beneficiaries round the year. With a shortage of chemical fertilizers including urea, the gauthan made vermi-compost and super compost should be sold to farmers for organic farming, he said.

The additional land in gauthan can be used for growing fodder mainly maize, jwar, bajra, and napier grass, he added.

Agriculture and Water Resources Minister Ravindra Choubey said 5 lakh quintals of vermi-compost have been produced thus far and 2.75 lakh quintals have been sold.
