‘Govt to blame for likely closure of ambulance service’

Published on:

nThe Bhartiya Janata Party on Wednesday criticized the Chhattisgarh government for the possible shutting down of emergency ambulance services run by GVK EMRI company in the state from July 31.

The company has issued a notice of closure of its services from the month end, the BJP said in a press statement. The ambulance service is widely known as Mahatari Express.

BJP spokesperson Shiv Ratan Sharma said the state government has no clear policy over the running of the essential services like Mahatari Express, which benefits pregnant women in the state.

He alleged in the statement that the Congress government wants to favour a company close to the party.

The government has extended the license of GVK services on older rates, leading to the company suffering financial loss.

The closure of Mahatari Express will deprive lakhs of pregnant women and infants from getting quick ambulance service in emergency. It will also lead to hundreds of staff becoming unemployed.

The government has not paid Rs 89,781 per ambulance per month as dues, the spokesperson said, and demanded to know why.
