‘Get tested within 24 hours of Covid-19 symptoms’

The Chhattisgarh Health Department on Saturday asked people of the state to get Covid tested within 24 hours of the appearance of its symptoms.

Due to public negligence, the numbers of deaths due to Covid is increasing, a press release said.

Quoting the death audit report of Covid patients, the department said that between December 11 and 17, 28 percent of Covid patients died within 24 hours of starting treatment.

Despite getting Covid symptoms, the patients did not get themselves tested and went for testing very late due to which their condition became serious.

The audit report further said that 12 percent of the deaths were reported within 48 hours while 6 percent died within 2-3 days.

The fatality rate of patients above 60 years was 4.45 percent while that between 45 to 59 was 0.92. This is the reason why doctors are repeatedly recommending elderly people to take extra caution.

According to the Health Department, by December 25 in all 2.75 lakh people were detected Covid positive in Chhattisgarh of which 2.55 lakh people were discharged upon recovery.

Currently there are 14,759 active cases and the virus has claimed 3,263 lives.
