nMahatma Gandhi used to dream of global peace. That is why he was against wars and atomic bombs. But today most powerful arms exist and wars continue. Therefore, he is more relevant in the present global scenario, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said on Saturday.
He was addressing the inaugural session of the webinar on ‘Relevance of Mahatma Gandhi in Contemporary Scenario: Global Peace’.
A fire can be doused by water and hatred can be overcome with love and harmony. Distress looms over the world today. So, following Gandhiji’s thoughts and walking on his footsteps are needed more than ever, the Chief Minister said.
Citing the grandson of Mahatma Gandhi as well as Albert Einstein, Baghel said even after 70 years after his demise, people and countries remember him. Even when there is a need to fight poverty and unemployment, violence has become formidable.
Had Gandhiji been alive, he would have fasted against atomic bombs, asked the UN to embrace non-violence and peace, spoken against fights in the name of religion and also fasted against mob lynching incidents in this country.
The Chief Minister spoke on how his government was following the path of Gandhiji by fulfilling the concept of ‘Gram Suraj’.
