Leave issue has emerged as an apparent reason that provoked the ITBP jawan to go on a shooting spree killing five of his colleagues before killing himself in the Maoist insurgency riddled Narayanpur, police said on Thursday.
“The ITBP jawan had not taken leave for past one year. However, as per the rules, it is mandatory to take leave in a year, so he was given leave,” Superintendent of Police (SP) Narayanpur Mohit Garg said while adding the jawan was saying that he will go on long leave after sometime but due to rules his plea was rejected and few hours later the firing incident occurred.
So, it appears to be the apparent trigger which caused the incident, the SP claimed.
Police has so far not been able to find any verbal or any other dispute that happened before the incident, the SP added.
Notably, the incident had occurred in ITBP’s 45th battalion in Kadenar village, around 350 km from Raipur on Wednesday. Two jawans injured in the incident were immediately airlifted to Raipur and were admitted in a private hospital.
